ThermoPro TP-20 Review
If you have a barbecue or smoker outside but you don’t want to sit over it while it comes to temperature or while it’s cooking your meat a wireless thermometer can be an invaluable tool. Check out it’s features:-
One thing Thermopro does well is offer a good warranty. If you register your TP-20 thermometer after you buy it they will give you an extended 3 year warranty. The probes get an even better deal as you can get a ThermoPro TP20 replacement probe free of charge if either stop working, just get in touch with customer services, all the details are in the box.
You have 2 types of wireless thermometers, this type of wireless thermometer which doesn’t need you to have any external signals to work. The transmitter sends it own signal which is received by the handset up to 300 feet away. The 2nd type of thermometer is a bluetooth type which links to your smartphone with an app. If you have a bad signal in your area this can limit you when using it, although these do tend to come with the option of more than 2 probes.
Large LCD display
Once you receive your ThermoPro TP-20 thermometer you just need to add the batteries into the transmitter then the receiver and in will sync automatically. Once you plug in the probes in the transmitter it will start reading the ambient air temperature. The temperature readings will show up on the transmitter and the receiver in large easy to read digits so no need to squint to read it. If you’re in an area of low light there is a backlight button to light up the reading.
You don’t need to be a bbq expert to be able to use one of these thermometers as there are preset temperatures programmed into the handset for 9 different types of meat and for the meats where you can choose how you want it cooked there are taste options included. All of the temperatures have been recommended by the USDA but if you find that they are not cooking it quite to your taste you have an up and down adjustment so you can set it just right for you.
Stainless steel probes
There are 2 probes included with the thermometer and they have been made with food grade stainless steel. The probes become more pointed at the end where the sensors are, this also makes them easier to place into the thick part of the meat. They are 6.5 inches in length so they can fit into the largest pieces of meat and they have mesh cables of 40 inches in length so you can stand the transmitter on a nearby table or hang it somewhere close to the grill. The temperature accuracy is +/-1.8F or +/-1C and the probes and cables can withstand heat up to 716F (380C) and the thermometer has a working range of 32F to 572F (0C to 300C).
You can set up each Thermopro TP20 probe to be used to measure the internal temperature of 2 different meats, whether it is the same meat you want to cook to 2 different tastes or you can set 1 up to measure the ambient temperature by using the probe clip included that attaches to oven shelf.
Easy to set up.
Setting up your handset when you’re ready to use your grill is a simple process. There is a power button to turn on or off. The timer is easily set to count up by pressing the start button, if you want to set it to count down a set time then use the up and down buttons to set you minutes and seconds and press start again and it will count down sounding an alarm when it’s finished. You can easily see the timer on the top of the screen above the probe temperatures. If you want to stop or reset just press the start button to stop it and hold it down to reset back to zero.
You can set the temperature reading to Fahrenheit or Celsius by pressing on the light button and holding it till it changes over and of course just press it when you need a backlit display.
Use the mode button to switch between the 2 probes, press the meat button to choose the type of meat you’re cooking and if it’s beef you can press the taste button to choose the level of doneness. If you want to set the probe for ambient temperature press the meat button until it gets to oven, then adjust the temperature to suit.
You also have the option to just program it to your own temperatures by pressing the meat button till you get to prog in the selections and then set it accordingly. The buttons are self explanatory and easy to use. When the probe gets to the required temperature it will sound an alarm.
Carry it with you
There is a clip on the transmitter to stand it up or hang it somewhere if there something to hook it on, the receiver handset can be clipped to your belt or stood up on a table top near where you are.
With 78% of 5 star reviews on Amazon.com you can tell that the customers are loving this thermometer. They love the fact that they can set it up and then be indoors while it’s doing it’s thing. Many people have used it their smokers by tracking the meat and the ambient temperature and have found it to work perfectly.
The main negatives that are recorded are the probes not working accurately after time and some people have found the receiver to stop working although I can say that both of these are covered by warranty and it’s worth getting in touch with Thermopro.
This ThermoPro TP20 Thermometer with Dual Probe offers you a simple to use thermometer but the price isn’t extortionate.
